CAP Delivers a Summer of Smiles to Children in Perry County, Kentucky

On July 27th, the Christian Appalachian Project hosted a Summer of Smiles distribution event for the families in Perry County, Kentucky. There was so much excitement throughout the community that 710 families rose early and waited in a car line for nearly two hours before the event began.

Many organizations came out to lend a helping hand with the distribution efforts and organization. Local police officers volunteered their time to support this initiative and assisted with traffic control. A host of other volunteers from the Salvation Army, Save the Children, the Perry County High School football team and Army JROTC program also contributed to the success of this event by assisting with the distribution of toys provided by the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.  They also supplied food and water.

This event made a positive impact within a community that has been hit hard due to the economic crisis, and 1,392 children received hope through the gift of a new toy! CAP has also conducted two other distribution events this year and delivered a Summer of Smiles to 5,492 children!
