Darby’s journey with the Toys for Tots Youth Ambassador Program began in 2017 with a single day of volunteering. That one day turned into a cherished tradition—and eventually into a leadership role that’s made a lasting impact on Darby and her community. Today, as a Toys for Tots Youth Ambassador, Darby is one of the most recognizable faces of her local Toys for Tots Campaign in Region 2, Kentucky, using her voice, time, and creativity to bring joy to children and families all year long. 

As a Youth Ambassador, Darby helps to plan and lead events, speak on behalf of the Program, and raise awareness that Toys for Tots is a year-round effort—not just a holiday program. Whether she’s organizing golf tournaments, hosting car shows, or appearing in radio and television interviews, she brings energy, heart, and a strong sense of purpose to every opportunity. 

But it’s the one-on-one moments that have made the deepest impact. She recalls a young boy who didn’t want to leave the play area during toy distribution—his joy and pure excitement stuck with her. “That was one of the main reasons I wanted to become a Youth Ambassador,” Darby shares. “I wanted to see more moments like that.” 

Another favorite memory came while delivering toys on Christmas morning with a local fire station. “We brought Sergeant Claus with us, and the kids were so excited—they thought he was Santa! One family even started crying tears of joy. It just made me feel so good to be part of it.” It’s experiences like these that show the true power of giving. 

But it’s not just about toys — it’s about transformation. Darby credits our Toys for Tots Youth Ambassador Program with helping her grow personally, especially in public speaking. “Before this, I really struggled with talking in front of people. But being part of this program has boosted my confidence so much,” she says. 

To anyone thinking about joining the Youth Ambassador Program, Darby’s message is simple: “Definitely do it. It will be one of the best decisions you’ve ever made!” 

Even when her time as a Youth Ambassador comes to an end, Darby has no plans to stop giving back. “I’ll definitely keep volunteering. I loved helping even before I became a Youth Ambassador, and I’ll keep doing it however I can after. 
 
Her hope is that more young people get involved and carry on the tradition of giving. “If they start young, hopefully they’ll still be volunteering when they’re adults and it becomes a generational family thing that continues to help the community, just like it was with my family.” 

Through her dedication, compassion, and leadership, Darby shows us the difference one person can make. She is not only a Youth Ambassador for Toys for Tots—she’s a shining example of the spirit of giving in action.
