Though Abigail may be young, her dedication to service runs deep. As a Youth Ambassador for Toys for Tots, she’s doing more than collecting toys—she’s strengthening communities, building connections, and spreading joy, year-round.

“A Youth Ambassador is a representative of Toys for Tots,” she explains. “We help families at Christmas and in our community year-round, make new friends and get them involved, and raise donations for projects throughout the year. But most of all, we have fun doing it.”

Her story began two years ago after her family formed a close friendship with a local Toys for Tots Coordinator and his wife. Inspired by the good deeds she saw happening around her, Abigail didn’t hesitate to get involved. Since then, she’s played a key role in expanding outreach efforts into her hometown and surrounding towns, based out of Region 7, Indiana.

Abigail’s impact goes beyond the holiday season. She promotes the Toys for Tots mission year-round through assisting her local libraries with the Toys for Tots Literacy Program, spreading the word through her teachers and school staff, or speaking with local business owners about donating toys.

Her favorite part of the program? “Toy distribution,” she beams. “It’s the moment everything we’ve worked on comes together. Seeing the joy in kids’ faces is unforgettable.” She also loves participating in community parades, fundraising events, and the Toys for Tots Youth Ambassador summer camp—where she’s formed lasting friendships and found a strong sense of belonging. “They treated me like we’d been friends for years.”

Abigail’s time as a Youth Ambassador is already shaping her future. “It’s helped me think more about careers where I can help people,” she reflects. Looking ahead, she hopes to stay involved by becoming a Youth Mentor, and dreams of seeing Youth Ambassadors in every community across the country.

For those considering joining the program, Abigail doesn’t hesitate to offer her encouragement: “It helps you step out of your comfort zone, meet new people, and experience the joy of helping others.” She believes youth play a vital role in giving back. “It builds character and gives you something positive to look forward to in life.”
