At Toys for Tots, we believe every child deserves to experience the simple joys of childhood—to explore, to try something new, and to build confidence through experiences outside their everyday environment. Getting children outdoors isn’t just about recreation; it’s about creating space for growth, resilience, and connection—especially for those who may not otherwise have those opportunities.
That belief comes to life through the experiences we create for children in communities across the country, like in Blairs, Virginia.
On June 13, 2026, Toys for Tots partnered with local organizations in Blairs, Virginia to create more than just a day by the water—it created a moment of joy, confidence, and connection for 24 children from the Danville Boys & Girls Club.
For many of these children in need, this was their first time fishing. With the guidance of volunteers and wildlife officers, they learned new skills, tried something unfamiliar, and experienced the simple but powerful excitement of catching their first fish. Laughter, encouragement, and patience filled the shoreline as each child was given the opportunity to succeed and feel proud of themselves.
But the impact didn’t end when the lines were reeled in. Each child left with a backpack filled with school supplies, a book, and essentials they could carry forward into the school year—reminders that someone believes in them and is invested in their future.
This event is a reflection of what Toys for Tots stands for: not just meeting needs during the holiday season, but showing up year-round to provide hope, build confidence, and create opportunities for children who need it most. Through strong community partnerships and a shared commitment to giving back, a single day became something much greater—a lasting impact in the lives of 24 children who left feeling seen, supported, and encouraged.
