John Dickson is a long-time Toys for Tots Coordinator—19 years and counting! Mr. Dickson runs the East Stroudsburg, PA campaign, and he has been selected as the Region 1 LCO Coordinator of the year TWICE! He was also awarded the Community Heroes Award from the Poconos Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Dickson has made quite a positive impact on his community. Many years ago, he helped a struggling mom provide toys for her children one Christmas. Years later, that same woman, now an employee at the local Amazon facility, was asked to find a charity that would be willing to take a surplus of toys they had from a store that had gone out of business. She immediately thought of Mr. Dickson, and he was able to pick up the toys with a borrowed truck! Even more unbelievable is that the toys were valued at nearly $53,000!
What a beautiful example of how Toys for Tots truly is a community action program!
And in case you need one more “feel-good” story and picture, Mr. Dickson recently met a young girl who has cancer. Stuffed animals can bring comfort to someone who is going through a very difficult and scary time, so he gave the little girl a giant teddy bear a few days before she went into surgery.
