Smart Development, a nonprofit organization based in Northeast Ohio, recognizes that true empowerment goes beyond meeting basic necessities. They are committed to strengthening the social safety net for refugee, immigrant, and ethnic-minority communities and nurturing hope and creating pathways to self-sufficiency for these families.
Earlier this summer, Smart Development provided families with essential goods and services at no cost through their initiative, Day of Dignity. During this event, Smart Development was able to distribute thousands of toys, books, and games—provided by Toys for Tots—to nearly 1,500 children in need!
The gifts provided by Toys for Tots ignite curiosity, foster creativity, and instill hope for a brighter future in both children and their families. The heartfelt response from the community was palpable, as noted by Mustafa Abed, President and Executive Director of Smart Development.
“One family stood out to me,” Abed shared. “Fatima, a single mother from Sudan with eight children, was overjoyed to attend the event. Her daughter expressed how these toys were the first new ones she had ever received, which made her feel truly special. One of her sons said it felt like his birthday, and he hopes to return to see us again soon.”
This distribution event reaffirmed the importance of community and hope. Toys for Tots stands ready to deliver the gift of hope to families in need—we are a year-round force for good.
